Now that the drama has died down.. how 'bout we all have some food? Let's make a tomato sandwich.
What do you need?
Tomatoes, bread (toasted or not, your choice), mayo, salt and pepper..
Step one: slice bread and tomatoes.
Step two: spread mayo on bread.
Step three: put tomatoes on bread.
Step four: add salt and pepper to taste, I prefer a sprinkle of salt and shitloads of pepper.
Step five: put another slice of bread on top.
Step six: eat that delicious sandwich.
Step seven: have a nice beer as well.

Add a slice of fresh mozzarella, a few sprigs of fresh basil, sub olive oil for mayo, and slap in on a panini press. bam.

I was out all day, and most of yesterday as well... what happened? Or rather, do I want to know what happened?

Thanks for accepting my call. I dont like tomatoes. I enjoy everything they are made into but a big hunk of raw tomato makes me want to barf. My question is this Laird What can I substitute for the tomatoes. I will take my answer off the air.

Perhaps, I've never tried that. I grow my own tomatoes, I always eat them fresh :)
Any suggestions on how to marinate them?

A tomato sandwich without a grill is a sad, sad thing.

Mixture of Balsamic vinegar, olive oil, minced garlic, and Italian seasoning. Couldn't tell ya how much of what, used to watch my mother as a kid and just always eyed it up from there. go great on a steak. cut em in nice thick cuts (like the picture) and let em sit for at minimum 12 hours, I prefer overnight, in the refrigerator (use a large Tupperware container, dont stack the slices, cover with plastic wrap).

It all depends on whether you're an American or not I guess.. I prefer my sarnies cold :) Slightly toasted so they'll hold all that lovely juice better is OK though.
Keep in mind that I always make this with freshly baked bread.

I true chef never use a said amount of anything, fingerspitzengefühlen is the way to do it.

Oh... Wow. Someone should let the folks over at Gawker know that there are places in this old wide world that aren't New York or the US.

Take mayo out and change that to goat cheese.

Not a bad choice at all. I actually never use mayo, I use (danish) remoulade.. but I wasn't sure if most americans would know what that is.. I know remoulade is served on po-boys.. but..
But yeah, eat it however you like it I'd say. I just wanted to contribute with something scrumptious :)
